Wabei kept staring in a daze at the mountain blocked by the wind and snow. By the time he snapped out of it, Gu Mengmeng had already decided to have him and Auretin wait here. Wabei tugged at Gu Mengmeng’s hand. “Gu Mengmeng, look at that mountain. Doesn’t it look like the shape of my body?”
At that, Wabei morphed back to his original form before curling up and raising the top part of his body high up and opening his jaws wide, glaring fiercely in an attacking stance.
Gu Mengmeng looked at Wabei and then at the mountain, before nodding profoundly. “Now that you mention it, there is really a likeness there. But don’t all snakes look like that? If Snakel was here and took up this posture, he will look even more like that mountain…”
Wabei morphed back to human form and shook his head with a deep frown. “No, that is me…”
“You?” Gu Mengmeng was puzzled. But after seeing that Wabei wasn’t joking, she fell silent for moment before asking, “Little shit, what impression do you have of the Motou mountains? Have you been here before?”
Wabei shook his head. “I have absolutely no recollection of the times after I was just born. My memories only go as far back as when I first met Snakel. Snakes usually inherit the memories of their ancestors but I have no impression of my them at all. It is like my life only started when I left the Mecca Desert to go to the Snake King valley with Snakel.”
This bit was really strange. Really very strange.
Gu Mengmeng patted Wabei on the shoulder. “It doesn’t matter. Since you are so curious, let’s go in to take a look. If you freeze, I will carry you along. Unless I die in there, I will bring you in and carry you out, no matter what.”
Wabei stiffened his neck and smiled scornfully. “I am a male, how can I be carried by you?!”
Only a true friend would know how much mutual trust there was behind his challenging and scornful smile.
