Chapter 274: My Most Beloved
TV dramas’ plots were set in specific areas. Every country had its slums.
Having the slums didn’t mean that the entire country was this poor.
“En, I have to see everything for myself before making any conclusions from now on.” Yun Xiangxiang learned about this value this time.
The night breeze was gentle and calm. It was relaxing, just like a mother’s hands. Yun Xiangxiang leaned against Song Mian’s shoulder. Perhaps the light was too dazzling, or perhaps a day’s worth of fatigue was finally getting to her.
Yun Xiangxiang fell asleep unknowingly. Song Mian picked her up before putting her in the car and driving home.

Yun Xiangxiang ran forward and hugged him before kissing him on the lips, “Happy birthday, my love.”
Her “my love” pleased Song Mian. He responded to her kiss.
“Ah Mian, can you teach me how to make a cake today?” Yun Xiangxiang rested her chin on her hand after she was done eating.
Since she was tired from yesterday’s trip, Song Mian wouldn’t take her out again today. Not to mention it was his birthday.
But they had to do something. When she thought about making a birthday cake with Song Mian, Yun Xiangxiang became particularly excited.
Song Mian made a call. Before long, Song Yao brought some men and sent them a bunch of ingredients. The house was installed with different kinds of ovens.

“Oh,” Song Mian replied calmly before turning around to prepare the cake. “What kind of shape do you want?”
“What do you think?” Yun Xiangxiang asked.
“Is cloud shape good?” Song Mian looked at her.
“Is it easy to do?” The most common ones were usually circles, squares, and hearts. Yun Xiangxiang seldom saw any other shapes.
“It is,” Song Mian started doing it after he replied to her.
As he made it, he detailed everything to Yun Xiangxiang, from the ingredients to how to make sure the cake was soft and delicious.
Yun Xiangxiang was handing him the ingredients. Song Mian was the one making it. When the base was being baked, Song Mian started whipping the cream.
For this job, Song Mian instructed Yun Xiangxiang as she did it. When the cream was whipped, Yun Xiangxiang noticed its aroma.
She couldn’t help but taste it a bit, “En, it’s delicious!”
As she looked at Song Mian’s loving smile, she wanted to prank him. She took a bit of the cream and smeared it on Song Mian’s face.
With how agile Song Mian was, Yun Xiangxiang wouldn’t succeed in her prank. But Song Mian let her. He would sacrifice his face to make her happy.
He didn’t get angry when he got smeared. He smeared her back. The couple started acting like three-year-olds. They chased each other with cream on their hands.
Of course, that bowl of cream wasn’t used. Song Mian made another one for the cake.
The cake was simple. A cloud-shaped cake was covered in white cream. Its edges were carved with thin lines.
It was crowned with golden sugar. The cake had a simple beauty. Yun Xiangxiang posted it on her Moments after she snapped some photos.
She captioned it with, “I took part in making this. Lovely, right?”
Many people played along. Yun Lin commented: [Elder sister, my birthday is almost here. You know what you have to do. {😤}]
Yun Zhibin commented too. [My daughter has never made a cake for me before! {😡}]
Li Xiangling replied: [We’ve been friends for so many years. Make a birthday cake for me. You can choose the time {😃}]
She had to do so many cakes all of a sudden. Yun Xiangxiang gave them the same reply: [Oops. Guess it’s a fail. I didn’t make this cake.]
It would spell trouble if she had to make the cakes. It was easy to make the shape, not the flavor.
She didn’t want to learn how. She had Song Mian for that. No way was she wasting her time on this.
Nighttime. Song Mian made the complementary steak, as they were in a foreign country. They had dinner in the rest area outside the house.
It was a candlelight dinner. There was red wine, a cake, steaks, a sky of stars, the soothing night breeze, and the shimmering pool.
“This red wine is good!” Thanks to the ice, but Yun Xiangxiang wasn’t going to admit that.
She knew nothing about red wine. She was a tasteless brute. But adding ice to red wine made it a splendid drink.
“They are the world’s biggest producers of grapes,” Song Mian explained. He didn’t think Yun Xiangxiang only liked the drink because it was cold.
“Isn’t that France?” France was famous for its grape wine. Vineyards were everywhere. Yun Xiangxiang thought France was the biggest producer of grapes.
“They’re not,” Song Mian placed the plate of readily cut steak pieces in front of his girlfriend before cutting his steak. “France is famous for its grape wine, but most of them use the grapes produced here.”
Yun Xiangxiang was surprised. She thought all the grape wine in France used the fruits grown in their own country. She didn’t expect it to be something like this.
“This is a wealthy land.” Yun Xiangxiang had a question. “Where are all the starving people with lifeless eyes?”
“They’re the victims of famine, but those are in West and North Africa. We’re in South Africa.” Song Mian corrected, “South Africa has never been a country that needed to be rescued.”
“I see,” Yun Xiangxiang finally got the answer. She was too influenced by TV. “Then the stories about this place being a city of crime are fake too, right?”
“Well that part is true,” Song Mian nodded after having a bite of the steak.
Anyone could buy firearms here. The crime rate was sky-high. The criminals were usually foreigners from neighboring poverty-stricken countries.
These criminals loved to target Chinese who chose not to use credit cards, and brought cash instead. Thanks to that, South Africa left a bad impression on the Chinese.
Someone could hold them at gunpoint as they leisurely strolled through the streets. If they even showed a bit of resistance, they would be shot through the chest.
That was why Song Mian would never let Yun Xiangxiang out of his sights while she was here.
