Chapter 334: Is This A Coincidence?
Huangfu Qingjue laughed lightly. “Just look at your sad expression. It’s not as if I am not coming back, I’m just leaving temporarily. There are some matters that the Deity Temple requires me to handle.”
“Sad expression? Nonsense!” Ling Chuxi would never admit that she had felt a sense of loss in her heart earlier.
“When I am not around, take care of yourself well. Remember, without my permission, you are not allowed to give up your life. You belong to me.” Huangfu Qingjue looked straight at Ling Chuxi, his tone gentle but domineering.
Ling Chuxi was slightly stunned. After a while, she slowly nodded, her face was a little flushed.
“Alright, I’m leaving. Remember my words.” Huangfu Qingjue smiled fondly and reached out to gently pat Ling Chuxi’s head before turning around and leaving.
Ling Chuxi looked at Huangfu Qingjue’s retreating figure, a little dazed.
“Chuxi, was that the Divine Messenger from the Deity Temple?” Ling Yichen had just returned and saw the silver haired, purple eyed man from afar. With such a unique appearance, who else could it be besides the Divine Messenger of the Deity Temple? However, what did he approach Ling Chuxi for? Could it be that he wanted to lure Chuxi over to the Deity Temple?
“Yes.” Ling Chuxi nodded and took the fried rice cakes from Ling Yichen’s hand.
“What did he come to see you for? Did he want you to join the Deity Temple?” Ling Yichen asked doubtfully.
“No.” Ling Chuxi gently shook her head and started eating her fried rice cakes, a faint smile on her lips.
Ling Yichen noticed her smile and turned to look for Huangfu Qingjue, frowning slightly. Why did he feel like there was something more between Chuxi and the Divine Messenger? Was he just imagining it?
Ling Chuxi was eating the fried rice cake and suddenly seemed to think of something. She looked at the place where she last saw Huangfu Qingjue. ‘Why is it that when Little White disappears, Huangfu Qingjue appears? And when Huangfu Qingjue disappears, Little White appears?’ Ling Chuxi was shocked by her thoughts, but immediately shook her head and smiled. ‘How is it possible? Little White is Little White. Huangfu Qingjue is Huangfu Qingjue. It’s merely a coincidence.’
Ling Chuxi seemed to have forgotten the saying ‘In this world, there are no coincidences. Everything is destined!’
Classes at the academy were to start soon, but Ling Chuxi could not make it in time to report to her academy. She, Ling Yichen, and Baili Han had been summoned to the palace by the emperor.
“I have a request to make of you three.” Ling Chuxi blinked owlishly. She had definitely not expected the emperor to say such words the moment he opened his mouth.
“Emperor, please speak.” Baili Han was direct and concise as usual.
“The vassal country assessment that happens once every three years is about to begin. I hope that the three of you can help represent my Nan Xia Country to go to battle. All of you have seen the arrogance of Dong Xing Country that day; I admit I am a little worried.” The emperor’s expression was solemn.
Ling Chuxi understood now. Nan Xia Country was the same as Dong Xing Country, they both belonged to Ding Lin Country. Ding Lin Country was a great country and it had five small countries that were its vassal countries. The five small countries needed the protection of Ding Lin Country and so every year, they would offer tribute. There would also be fighting amongst the five small countries, and so the triennial vassal country assessment was born. Every three years, the five countries would hold a large-scale competition in Ding Lin Country to determine the standard of tribute, etc.
Clearly, the fighting ring competition that had been held in Nan Xia Country was merely a preparation for the upcoming assessment that all five countries would participate in.
However, Ling Chuxi did not think that this matter would be so simple. Would Ding Lin Country, as a great country, hope for its own vassal countries to become stronger and more prosperous? That was not necessarily so. Therefore, going to Ding Lin Country to participate in the competition did not seem to be that easy.
