While they looked eye to eye, the stifled air seemed to experience another faint sliver of warmth.
Moments after that, he silently lowered his gaze. His dim eyes looked out of the window, and when Xi Xiaye followed his gaze, he realized that the night sky outside was a little gloomy. Over the vast and still horizon hung a very dull moon.
Xi Xiaye waited for a long while, but he did not say anything. She was stunned for a moment. Then, she looked up and fixed her eyes on him. After a while, he looked at her again and said in a low voice, “What should I do then?”
When she heard that, the pain from the bottom of her heart was even more intense. She sat down close to him and put an arm over him.
Mu Yuchen paused but did not reject her as he laid down with his head on her thigh. “I’ll be fine after a while. Grandmother used to love me the most. A lot of my thoughts from over the years were influenced by her. She’s not just a grandmother to me.” His tone sounded very gloomy and wrought with sadness.
“Grandmother was really good to me. Apart from Grandpa, she’s the second elder who cared the most about me. I’m shakened and saddened by her sudden departure. Perhaps this is just the will of Heaven. Maybe she was rushing to find an answer too, so she went to look for Aunt. Alright, let’s not talk about it anymore. You look tired. Just get a good night’s sleep. A momentary blankness flashed in Qi Lei’s head and he was in a daze for a long while before he sat down on the sofa behind him in bewilderment. Soon, he looked up at Yang Sheng. “What happened? Is this true?”
Yang Sheng quickly nodded. “It’s true. It definitely is, Master Qi! Elder Madam Mu had a sudden heart attack this afternoon. When she was sent to the hospital, it was already too late and they couldn’t save her. Master Mu already informed Li Si and the rest to lock down this news for now to avoid unnecessary panic. It was when Li Si called me earlier that I found out about it. In fact, even Su Chen and Zhou Zimo rushed over to the Maple Residence in the evening, so it must be true!”
When Qi Lei heard that, his expression darkened. “How did that happen? How come it happened so suddenly? How did she suddenly get a heart attack? Hasn’t Elder Madam Mu always been quite healthy?”
