She had just stepped out when she noticed a familiar-looking little car parked outside. Shu Yan waited for a little while but he never got out of the car. She was just about to walk over but the car was started and was about to take off.
So he wasn’t going to get out of the car because Wu Xiuyue was there? She ran up there and knocked on the window. “Hang on for a second.”
Feng Zeyu stopped the car per requested and cracked open the window a little. “You are busy right now. I’ll be back in a little while.”
Shu Yan turned and gave Wu Xiuyue a look. “It’s fine.”
“No, I will be back later.” Feng Zeyu was very insistent about it and even rolled the window back up when Wu Xiuyue approached them.
“Who is it? Why is he leaving already?”
“A friend. He needed to be somewhere. Let’s head home too.” Shu Yan looked in the direction of the little car and let out a sigh.
Shu Yan bought each kid three sets of outfits and had them changed into them to see. They all looked very nice on them.
“They are nice-looking but they fit too well. They won’t fit any more next year,”said Aunty to one side.
“That’s fine. We will just buy new ones next year.” Shu Yan remembered that her mother would always buy clothing that were one or two sizes bigger whenever she’d take her cloth shopping so they could last for 2-3 years. Her biggest wish at the time was to have a set of clothes that actually fit her. Now that she had children of her own and money wasn’t a big problem, there really was no need to save on things like that.
“What a waste to throw them out in a year?” said Aunty as she stroked the material, figuring that these were not cheap at all.
“That’s why I didn’t buy too many of them. Just a few sets to rotate. We can always give them away later.” Although probably nobody in City Nan would care for them.
“You are going to give them away?” Aunty rubbed her hands together. “Can you give them to me?”
Where she was from was very poor. If they had fabric, they would make clothes for the adults first. They would then be converted to children clothing when the adults were done with them. Then to even younger children. They were usually fairly old and raggedy by then.
Shu Yan bought a lot of clothes for their two children. None of them had washed very many times. They looked brand new and people back in her home town would no doubt fight over them.
“Sure, if you don’t mind them. You can have my two kid’s fall and winter clothes from last year.” They weren’t great clothes. JingJing had almost nothing and Shu Yan had already tossed them all out.
“Of course I won’t mind. Why would I?” She hadn’t seen the fall clothing before but she had seen the winter sets. They were like new. She heard that the down jacket alone would cost upward of 50~60 yuan.
There was no reason to keep unfit clothes around. It’d be nice if they couldn’t help someone else out.
“Sure. You were the one who put them away. Just pick the better ones and take them with you.”
Shu Yan felt that the top and pants were fine. People probably would not want to take undergarments. Aunty, on the other hand, said that they were all of good materials and definitely would not be a problem.
Aunty brought the clothes back with her during her time off for her nieces and nephews from her mother’s side of the family and her two sisters-in-law fought over them.
Aunty picked up a red down jacket and said, “Do you know how much this cost? Sixty yuan, imported too. It’d fetch over 100 yuan at a shop. It is very warm in the winter time. You guys split the rest. I am saving this one for oldest sister’s granddaughter. That poor girl, losing her mother at such a young age. “
The two sisters-in-law didn’t fight with her over that after she had said so and just split the rest of the clothing.
“Your employer is too nice, giving you brand new clothes like this. These materials are so good. They must cost tens of yuan.”
The eldest sister’s granddaughter was so happy when she saw that the down jacket was for her she couldn’t stop smiling.
“I will bring you more after spring time when you employer swaps out the clothes for her children.” Aunty stroked the little girl’s air that felt like straw and, recalling JingJing’s black and shiny hair, couldn’t help but lamented how lives between two girls could be so different.
