“Sure, let’s take our time to talk about this.” Murder charges, and three of them no less. They would be spending a lot of time talking over it.
“Those sitting outside filing a police report were my Second Uncle and Aunt. I am guessing that they said I’ve killed Shu Yan, my cousin. Gosh, that imagination. They should be writing scripts for television shows. What a waste of their talent.” Shu Jianyang snickered.
“So your cousin is still alive?” The cop who was going to interrogate him immediately caught the message.
“Of course my cousin is still alive. You can find that out from her household register. Mainly my Second Uncle and Aunt favored their sons over their daughters greatly and had always been awful to my cousin. They wouldn’t let her go to school and would have her do the most difficult chores at home. Nor would they give her enough to eat. When she reached the right age, they didn’t choose a man who was upstanding but married her off to the one who offered the most in bride price. Last year, my cousin’s husband cheated on her so she came to me to help her gather some evidences and divorced her husband. Her husband was a businessman and was quite wealthy. He gave her all of his fortune during the divorce proceeding.” Shu Jianyang muddled that a little and the cop did not ask for details. He went on to say, “I guess my cousin was very heart broken after the divorce so she sold the houses and left City Xi with the kids. She asked me to not tell her parents where she went when she took off. My Second Uncle and Aunty had visited me repeatedly trying to find out her whereabout. I didn’t think they would make up something like I had killed her and even filed a police report.”
Shu Jianyang didn’t think they had such wild imagination. All in all, they had been blinded by money.
Upon hearing that, the cops leaned more toward Shu Jianyang’s version.
They had looked into Shu Jianyang before they went to pick him up. He was in the gang once but anyone who knew him said he was a upstanding man and one who had always been nice to his family and helped out those from his village a lot. Granted, they couldn’t quite jump to the conclusion just yet.
“Her parents kept saying that you were after Shu Yan’s money. Can we ask how much we are talking about?
“Sure, at the time as Ye Zhiqiang, Shu Yan’s ex-husband, was the one who had faulted, he gave her all of his money and assets. The company was worth 1.5 million yuan. Then there were five houses. My cousin sold them for cheap. I don’t know the exact number but I am guessing around 2 million yuan. This included the house that I am currently living in. I bought that from her. I have contract proofing that. The car was given to me by my cousin as a token for helping her out.” Shu Jianyang didn’t see the need to hide anything so he told them everything.
The cop nodded and asked, “Can you give your cousin a call?”
“Sure. I can call her right now.”
The phone rang a few times and someone picked it up. “Hello?”
Shu Jianyang was just about to speak when the cop next to him took over the receiver and asked, “Hi, is this Madam Shu Yan?”
“I am not. I am her housemaid. May I ask who this is? I can let her know when she returns.” Aunty’s clear and loud voice came from the other end.
The cop gave the phone back to Shu Jianyang for him to carry on.
“Hi, I am Shu Yan’s cousin and I need to talk to her. Do you know where she is right now? Is she at her shop?”
“Oh, that I am not sure. She might be at her shop?” Aunty did not know that Shu Yan had already given the shop over to Zhang Huaxiu.
After hanging up the phone, Shu Jianyang placed another call to Shu Yan’s shop.
A young woman answered the phone. Shu Jianyang gave the cop a look and, seeing that they had no intention of taking the receiver from him, asked, “Hi, is Shu Yan there?”
“Shu Yan? Oh! You are looking for our other boss. She hasn’t been in in a while now. Sister Xiu is the one who has been managing the shop. Hang on, let me get her. Sister Xiu, someone is calling for Boss Shu.”
