Chapter 399: “I really feel that she is not my daughter.” (2)
“Her grandmother told us. We wouldn’t otherwise even know that she was back. She didn’t even tell us when she came home. She had no idea how worried we are about her,” said Lin Zixiang with a loving-mother look.
Shu Yan chuckled lightly. Then, she laughed harder and harder. Finally, she laughed so hard that there were tears in her eyes.
“What are you laughing at?” Lin Zixiang looked at her, displeased.
“Mom, you are so funny. You didn’t even recognize me when I am standing right in front of you.”
Shu Youfu and Lin Zixiang looked at Shu Yan, stunned and shook their heads vigorously. “Don’t joke with us. My daughter doesn’t look like that.”
The receptionist looked at Shu Yan, equally stunned and explained. “If you are looking for Miss Shu Yan, this is the only one staying at our hotel.”
Lin Zixiang said in a daze, “Maybe we have the wrong hotel then.”
Having said that, Lin Zixiang took off with Shu Youfu before Shu Yan could say anything else.
Once they were out on the streets, Shu Youfu shook off Lin Zixiang’s hand and said, “Why did you have to run away like that?”
“Are you crazy? That woman looked like a young madam from some rich family. What do you think she would think when we show up out of nowhere claiming to be her parents?”
“She called you ‘Mom’ earlier. Maybe she is our daughter.” Shu Youfu suggested a bold idea.
Lin Zixiang looked at Shu Youfu like she was looking at a fool. “That’s not possible. She was mocking us. Don’t you remember what our daughter looks like? If she only looks half as pretty as that woman out there, Ye Zhiqiang would not have cheated on her.”
Shu Youfu nodded. That made sense too.
The two went back to Shu Jianyang’s place, feeling defeated. Lin Zixiang went to gripe to Old Mrs. Shu. “Didn’t you tell us that Shu Yan is staying at the hotel where Jiangyang’s banquet is? We went over there and she wasn’t there.”
“That’s not possible. Jiangyang said they are staying there.” When Shu Yan’s family came over today, Old Mrs. Shu told them that Shu Yan was back. She meant for them to go and say something nice to her and smooth out their relationship some.
“No, really. There was someone with the same name as Yanyan though. But she was totally a different person.” Recalling about the person that she met at the hotel, Lin Zixiang couldn’t help but lamented, “Same name but different fates. If our Yanyan has her temperament and looks, Ye Zhiqiang would have treasured her.”
Old Mrs. Shu got it now. Shu Yan had changed so much that she looked like a different person. Even she and her old man were hesitant to admit that she was Shu Yan at the time. Then again, if her parents couldn’t even recognize her, that it made sense that they couldn’t either.
“That is your daughter Shu Yan. Didn’t she address you when she saw you?” asked Old Mrs. Shu.
“She did.” Lin Zixiang replied in a daze. So the woman wasn’t mocking them? She really was her daughter Shu Yan?
Lin Zixiang and Shu Youfu rushed back to the hotel and learned that Shu Yan had gone out. The two of them decided to just stay and wait at the lobby.
They waited for an hour and a half before Shu Yan and Feng Zeyu returned.
“You really are Shu Yan?”
Shu Yan busted out laughing. “You are too funny. You don’t even recognize your own daughter.”
Lin Zixiang looked Shu Yan up and down. “That’s not possible. My daughter doesn’t look like that nor could she look like that.”
Shu Youfu nodded next to her. He knew what his daughter looked like. She was short and fat and looked like a winter melon. The woman in front of them was not tall but she was slim, which made her looked tall. Her skin was fair and her temperament refined. How could she be his daughter Shu Yan?
Lin Zixiang smacked her thigh suddenly and said, “Okay, then say something in our local dialect.”
Shu Yan rolled her eyes. She needed to prove that she was herself? She didn’t have that time of time to entertain them.
“It’s up to you to believe it or not. I am heading back upstairs if you have nothing else. Let’s go, Yu.”
